Hi – I have been married over 30 years. I tried to leave my psychologically abusive wife more times than I can count. Even getting so far as actually moving out a couple of times. Other times getting to the door before I was blocked or sometimes not even getting out of the room until she went on the attack and crushed me yet again. After my last failed attempt in December 09, where I was packed and almost gone but surprise surprise didnt make it I was a basket case for 3 days, just sitting on the couch not feeling anything. A friend finally convinced me that I needed help. It took me a week to actually make a call to an abuse hotline, I mean you all know that a real man wouldnt allow his wife to treat him like that. What kind of man calls that sort of hotline? I finally made the call and talked to the counselor. Then I found a therapist and first saw her in early January. I terrified of the visit. I would have to tell someone my secret, that I a successful professional was being abused by my wife. Well to make a long story short. It has been a great help to me. I have learned a lot about myself. Learned to talk back to my inner critic, Set plans in motion to leave, set boundries etc. But now I am coming to the point where I have to fish or cut bait as they say. It is time to leave. I have run out of excuses….but every time I think I am ready, something stops me. Maybe I am afraid of failing again or afraid of the unknown. Don’t know exactly, but do know I have to do it and have to succeed this time. I have rambled enough. Anyone have any thoughts on how to take the final step? How did you know it was time and how did you finally leave the abusive relationship?ThanksDennis
