The comments in the Commitment thread got me thinking. As I said there, I really don’t know if I have it in me to commit to another woman, after what I’ve been through. But, honestly, I’d like to try. I’m OK with being alone, and comfortable with myself, but I really do like being in a relationship. As Loki noted, I have a lot of love to give, and I don’t want to be a bitter old man. My first marriage ended after 21 years, and we had just grown apart. I started dating about 4 months after we split and dated maybe a dozen women total. 9 were just a first date. Two lasted from a month to 3 months. After a year I met my NPD, and that lasted 7 years. My NPD marriage ended in grief and agony. I was mourning every day of the last 3.5 years I was with her and am still mourning. At this point, my NPD has stolen over 4 years of my life from me. She destroyed me emotionally and financially. I can and am recovering from the financial part, but the emotional part will take a lot longer.OTOH, every day that I’m not in a fulfilling relationship is another day she’s stolen from me. I don’t want to give her that kind of power. But I also don’t want to burden another woman with the baggage from this relationship. For those of you who have moved on into new relationships, how long did it take? Did you find that you had a few dry runs, or worse, train wrecks, along the way?
