I am a survivor of a series of abusive relationships who is currently counseling two friends who are in abusive relationships. One is a woman in the middle of ending an abusive relationship with her husband. She has asked for my help, and I am pleased to be able to support her. The other is a man, an old friend who is the father of a young daughter. I recognized his relationship with her mother as abusive almost immediately. After some months of discussion, he has finally acknowledged the relationship as abusive in a conversation with me today. So I spent all afternoon online looking for resources to send him. And I am writing to tell you how thoroughly I am impressed with your website. Great job, guys! Great job! Every single article is thoughtful and well-written. I am so pleased to be able to point him to you. My only request is that I would like to see an article with advice specifically for men on the subject of children. For a man who is the primary caregiver, the fear of losing access to his child is a powerful device which an abusive woman can use to manipulate him and keep him trapped. No man wants to abandon a young child to an abusive mother, but neither is it an easy choice to separate a young child from its mother. This concern for his daughter (and the mother’s manipulation of his guilt of being a bad parent) sucked my friend back in after having made huge step of leaving the house with the abusive mother at the first of the year. You have some great writers, and I would love to see any advice they have about such situations. Thanks again, for what is obviously a labor of love. Please, keep up the good work!Suzy
